Business Need / Purpose of Role

To provide field service support for Installation / commissioning / troubleshooting, of customer owned equipment. 

Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

Including but not limited to:

  • Planning and execution of practical site activities as directed by the Service Manager, including job specific method statements, fault diagnosis and risk assessments, in a timely manner and in accordance with Weir quality procedures
  • Assurance and adherence to all Health, Safety and Environmental procedures as specified by both Weir and the Client
  • Provide technical support and where appropriate liaise with Weir’s technical support team and/or the client’s field support to ensure appropriate actions are taken
  • When required, supervision of Weir, Customer and/or Subcontract labour, ensuring use of resources and quality of work
  • Maintenance of equipment integrity at all times
  • Completion of Contract reports in accordance with the specified format and timescales
  • Completion of all timesheets and expenses in accordance with relevant  terms and conditions and Company procedures

Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications


Time Served craftsperson in appropriate discipline, ideally with a NVQ 3 / HNC Mechanical Engineering. Substantial job experience in a similar role. Centrifugal compressor installation, overhaul & refurbishment. Pump and steam turbine installation, overhaul & refurbishment. Basic control systems.


Product Knowledge:

Overhaul and commissioning of steam turbines up to 100mw, gas compressors and pumps.


Communication Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, risk assessment, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, and engineering drawings.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Confident communicator with customers, contractors and fellow workers.  Be an ambassador for the company at the front line.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Computer Skills

Proficient in Microsoft office software.

Driving licence, valid passport, IOSH managing safely, safety passport.  Offshore certification beneficial.


Physical Demands:

Ability to work at height and in confined spaces.  Physically demanding role with the need to carry heavy equipment weighting up to 20kg.  Physically able to work 12 hour shifts, including nights, if required.


Work Environment

Will be required to work overseas, on occasion e.g. refineries, power stations, steel works etc, for extended periods, as well as working offshore.  Regular working outdoor in adverse weather conditions.
