Business Need / Purpose of Role

The role will be responsible for leading all aspects of product management primarily acting as the key interface between internal and external sales functions.


Ensuring the external sales teams are trained in aspects of the product and coordinating promotion efforts of the product. Equally ensuring the service and support to external sales through Inside Sales team is to a high standard with fast response time on quote and managing margin to support bid competitiveness.


To assess competitor product offerings and to advise on product development requirements. Liaising with global customer base to feedback any customer specific requirements that affect the manufacturing site and product development.


To also ensure that pricing levels are matched to regional requirements whilst liaising with regional sales directors and manufacturing site

Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities


  • To work with the External/Divisional sales teams to secure profitable orders in line with factory manufacturing capabilities
  • To assist with end user and customer engagement, providing support for regional sales ensuring there is a clear understanding of VOC
  • To manage product marketing including PR, advertising, literature, web site (in partnership with MarCom)
  • To lead Product Life Cycle Management – product planning and portfolio strategy – Product segmentation. Develop product roadmap for each product family to include new product development, value engineering and cost reduction activities, investment and resource prioritization and M&A activities to achieve year-over-year growth
  • Assist with of the Annual OE & Aftermarket Order Input
  • Liaise with external sales and internal sales to ensure quotations are in line with customers’ expectations
  • To work closely with aftermarket to provide on time quotations with the assistance of internal sales teams and help bridge the gap between aftermarket teams and factory
  • Represent Products to customers and at field events such as conferences, exhibitions, seminars, etc


  • To be an effective team member by offering expertise with in the product and flexibility of cover and provide assistance to others as required
  • To ensure that processes and procedures are followed in accordance with “We Are Weir”
  • To ensure process and procedures are developed in order to maximize efficiency evaluated by proper KPI’s
    • Ensure effective communication with the internal and external Sales Team to ensure customer requirements are fully understood.
    • Ensure prices quoted are in line with expectations to win business
    • Ensure that any product development required is correctly communicated and analyzed for potential markets
    • To monitor competitor product and strategies and advise on risks and opportunities.
    • Evaluate pricing and lead time competitor’s position by product line and region in order to propose corrective actions in association with Operations.
  • Any other duties that may be required to meet the needs of the company
  • Assess fit of product offering to match customer needs and apply selective process to accept or decline RFQ.
  • Based on the selection process and the chance to convert a RFQ prioritize RFQ with a balance of business profitability and strategic outcome when internal resources are stretched.

Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

The Product Director should be qualified to an HNC/HND level or equivalent or have completed an indentured apprenticeship or a Degree


Extensive experience in the valve industry.


Proven track record in a technical sales environment with a focus on Energy and Oil and Gas sectors


Language Skills:

Fluent oral and written English is essential.


Computer Skills:

Should be PC literate and confident with Microsoft Office package, namely Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
