    Business Need / Purpose of Role


    Weir Minerals Europe have an exciting opportunity for a Machine Shop and Manufacturing Engineering Manager to join our team based in Todmorden. We are offering the successful candidate a competitive salary of up to £60,000 per annum plus excellent benefits.


    The Machine Shop and Manufacturing Engineering Manager Role


    A key member of the operations team, the Machine Shop and Manufacturing Engineering Manager is responsible for the day to day running of the Machine Shop and Manufacturing Engineering Departments. The Machine Shop consists of 50 machinists working on three shifts. The Manufacturing Engineering Department consists of 5 Manufacturing Engineers and one Administrator working on a standard day shift.


    The opening date for this position is 30th July 2018.


    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    Including but not limited to:


    • Ensure the highest levels of performance with regards to on time delivery.
    • Deliver quality products according to customer requirements.
    • Ensure output targets are achieved.
    • Effectively manage all resources in line with business requirements.
    • All Manufacturing Engineering activities within the local Business.
    • To manage the deployment and effectiveness of all Machine Shop & Manufacturing Engineering personnel.
    • Ensuring that competent Manufacturing Engineers accurately convert the design intent into clear manufacturing instructions.   Including the management of all operational routings and standard work.
    • Development and enhancement of the manufacturing process.
    • Establishing capacity for all operational areas and working with the S&OP process to flex this capacity as required.
    • Ensure that the Machine Shop is supplied with manufacturing NC programmes.
    • Ensure compliance with all health and safety, security, system access and data protection policies.
    • Responsible for instilling a motivated, successful culture through effective leadership
    • Assures that the certification processes within the business are adequately defined, accurate, credible, robust and consistently applied.
    • Ensuring engineering integrity of bills of material and configuration control.



    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    • Over three years experience managing a busy machine shop for a dewatering & centrifugal pumps and minerals processing manufacturer is essential.
    • Experienced in the machining of large castings (up to 15T) is essential.
    • Has delivered significant improvements in Safety, People, Quality, Cost and Delivery in a similar environment is essential.
    • Machining of hard metals e.g. A05, A61 etc is essential
    • Significant previous experience in an engineering manufacturing environment.
    • Proven track record of success.
    • Managing change in busy manufacturing facility.
    • Significant people & project management experience.
    • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
    • Six Sigma / Lean qualifications.
