  • Business Need / Purpose of Role

    The Weir Minerals Europe Operating Company supports customers across Europe, North Africa, Turkey and Central Asia with 2 manufacturing plants based in the UK.

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    • To ensure adherence to the Company Health & Safety policy for yourself and all other employees. Recording of hazards.
    • To function as a fully flexible member of the team and carry out activities as necessary to fulfil business/ team objectives in a safe and efficient manner.      
    • To communicate to your team members so they fully understand the schedule requirements on their shift.
    • To organise with the Team leader the daily / weekly schedule to deliver the plan and distribute molten metal at the agreed times.
    • To ensure furnace platform targets and times are met in line with the daily plan and generate Charge recipes as required for the Furnacemen to work to, giving temperatures required to work to.
    • Ensure quality requirements are met.
    • To identify and evaluate improvement opportunities within the Melting Department.  
    • To encourage, train and develop team members.  
    • Ensure that Housekeeping is kept to required standard.
    • To give a well-informed and detailed hand over to the next shift.
    • To inform the melting Team Leader/shift supervisor of any problems/breakdowns encountered on your shift.
    • To analyse, rectify, trim the metal chemical analysis as required to meet the Companies Metals Specifications
    • To ensure that the Metal is cast within the Companies required practices and procedures for temperature and process time.
    • To log the results of Heats on the production systems available (SAP and Forcam) and the “Output” sheets in a legible manner as required by the Companies QA procedures.
    • To produce and process any Metallographic samples as required evaluating the acceptance or rejection of treated metal such as Microstructures and test bars for SG.
    • Provide support to the team where required
    • To stand in for the Team Leader as and when required.

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    • Have heavy engineering background
    • Experience of working with Manafacturing is desirable
