  • Business Need / Purpose of Role

    Part of the value chain strategy of the minerals division is to improve the visibility of our divisional supply chain and operations in order to ensure we can better coordinate our global value chain. To enable this role we need to build an analytics platform that will give key users, both within division and within the business units, clear, granular insight into business activities that will enable them to make better decisions faster. This role will support the construction of this platform. 

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    Objectives:

    Development of an analytics platform

    • Work with business users to define key insights, reports, analytics they need and convert those requirements into analytics systems and platforms needed. Act as a bridge between the needs of the business and potential analytics solutions
    • Work with divisional and group digital / systems teams to ensure data is correctly converted from raw data sources into effective insights.
    • Support the overall development of a divisional analytics platform
    • Train key users across the division in self-service analytics

    Creating divisional insights

    • Help businesses and division uncover insights that will help improve customer service, profitability, growth or cash flow using analytics

    Measurements:

    • Increase in “Data efficiency” across the division (through adoption and use of modern day analytics systems)
    • ROI on individual analytics projects

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    Education and/or Experience:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, computer science or proven experience in analytics
    • At least 5 years’ experience working in a business analytics role, specifically within supply chain and operations (domain experience)
    • Good Experience with database modelling and architecture
    • Experience with in analysis and modelling (eg operations research related work)
    • Good experience with database warehousing and ETL concepts & tools

     

    Language Skills:

    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

    Mathematical:

    • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

    Reasoning Ability:

    •  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

    Computer Skills:

    • Microsoft Office
    • Experience with reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau etc.
    • Experience with writing SQL reports
    • Experience with ERP systems and logic

    Advantageous skills:

    • Experience with big data platforms (Azure / AWS)
    • Project management skills, specifically in a DevOps / Agile environment
    • Basic experience with open source analytics tools (R and or Python data science tools)

    Physical Demands:

    • This role will involve some travel, at least 1 – 2 trips per month to regional or global locations

    Work Environment:

    • This is a knowledge worker role which requires the ability to work in an open plan office as well as while travelling and working remotely
