  • Business Need / Purpose of Role

    Part of the Value Chain strategy of the Minerals Division is to (a) improve the visibility of our divisional operations in order to ensure we can better coordinate capacity and share best practice and (b) reduce operational cost by removing non value adding activities. This role will support this strategy by designing and implementing systems to provide shop floor visibility and automate direct and indirect operational activities. This role will include responsibility for executing our divisional smart factory initiatives.

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    Objectives:

    • Execute and Deploy a division wide manufacturing execution system (MES)
    • Develop systems to provide real time capacity, utilization and efficiency at a divisional level
    • Coordinate the deployment of any group digital smart factory programs
    • Assist in the deployment of automation technologies across the division (physical and electronic workflows)
    • Help build manufacturing systems and automation capability within the businesses through training
    • Help businesses model up manufacturing systems to enable better decision making

    Measurements:

    • Effective deployment of ME / Automation projects in support of Value Chain Excellence programs (Such as MES)
    • ROI and savings from manufacturing systems and automation projects
    • Level of key user manufacturing systems and automation capability within the businesses

     

     

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    Education and/or Experience:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering a related field, preferably mechanical, manufacturing ,industrial  or systems engineering or proven experience in deploying  manufacturing systems 
    • At least 5 years’ experience working in a manufacturing or systems engineering role within operations
    • Experience in deploying software systems for the shop floor
    • Good handle on core manufacturing concepts relating to capacity, lead time, WIP etc

    Language Skills:

    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

    Mathematical:

    • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

    Reasoning Ability:

    •  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

    Computer Skills:

    • Microsoft Office
    • Experience with implementing PLC systems, SCADA systems, connectivity platforms etc
    • Experience with reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau etc.

    Advantageous skills:

    • Experience with current IoT based technologies
    • Experience with level 2 & 3 stack technologies on the ISA 95 standard
    • Experience with simulation and modelling (Simul8 etc)
    • Project management skills
    • Experience in working the cloud based storage platforms

    Physical Demands:

    • This role will involve travel, at least 1 – 3 trips per month to regional or global locations

    Work Environment:

    • This is a knowledge worker role which requires the ability to work in an open plan office as well as while travelling and working remotely
