  • Business Need / Purpose of Role

    The Continuous Improvement Engineer will report to the Continuous Improvement Manager and will be a key role in implementing a fast paced value stream transformation of a complex manufacturing process encompassing Foundry, Machining and Assembly processes with the objective of reducing lead times and improving operational effectiveness and efficiency.

     

    As part of the Weir Minerals Europe Operations team we work within our lean manufacturing production system and strongly focus on our people, quality, velocity and cost. We are customer focused with a passion to deliver exceptional quality and value to our customers.

     

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    • Planning, organisation and running of formal Lean / kaizen / Six Sigma improvement events

     

    • Planning and delivering of Lean training workshops at all levels
    •  
    • Responsible for the collection of data and the creation of weekly monthly reporting and the updating of visual management boards
    •  
    • Conducting lean / 5s audits – helping teams to create and deliver improvement plans
    •  
    • Coaching teams in lean best practice / operational excellence
    •  
    • Support and work towards all departmental and personal objectives
    •  
    • To provide cover for the Continuous Improvement Manager in the event of Holidays and Sickness
    •  
    • Introducing a step change in the use of visual management and 6s
    •  
    • Implementing the tools and discipline to ensure that changes are robust and sustained and have the ability to remove any barriers to change
    •  
    • Compliance with health and safety at work requirements, fire regulations, COSHH regulations and safe work practices as identified in company risk assessments as well as maintaining confidentiality at all times
    • Working with Operations to remove cost from the manufacturing processes in order to ensure margin maximization.

     

    • Maximising value added.

    • Eliminating / reducing non value added activities
    •  
    • Setting clear targets for savings / efficiencies and monitoring success against these.
    •  

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

     

    •  
    • Demonstrate leadership and success of improvement projects in a multi-process manufacturing environment
    •  
    • Excellent communication skills, along with experience of change management.
    •  
    • Engineering background and experience within a range of manufacturing processes.
    •  
    • Excellent problem solver with the ability to identify and then complete improvement projects
    •  
    • Approach to working hours must be flexible and this role will involve some travel at times
    •  
    • Ability to work under pressure and be flexible
    •  
    • Have the personal competences and ability to communicate with others in a professional and helpful manner, at all levels, in both verbal and written communication.
    •  
    • A flexible, proactive, adaptable and a co-operative attitude
    •  
    • Must have initiative and self-motivation and ability to deliver effective work and make sound decisions but must also know when to seek guidance and direction.

    • Excellent IT skills, proficient with Microsoft Office products
