    Weir Minerals Europe is part of the Weir Group plc, the business has been established for over 100 years and is a world leader in the design and manufacture of pumps, valves, cyclones, vibrating screen machines, crushers and other associated equipment for the mining and minerals processing industries. The company has seen significant sustained revenue growth with output rising from £31 million to circa £130 million within the last 6 years. Based in the North West of England we are a well established company that is growing year on year. Our organisation currently has 800 employees throughout Europe with over 400 based in Todmorden, which sits on the edge of both Lancashire and West Yorkshire.

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    • Develop R&D agenda to improve Weir Minerals hard facing capabilities.
    • Apply laser claddings to Weir casting per engineering requirements
    • Maintenance of laser usage records for auditing of cell.

    Management of all aspect of the claddings team and department

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    Essential:

    • Degree in mechanical engineering, physical metallurgy, materials science or physics.
    • Experience in the operation of laser systems and powder deposition technologies
    • Experience in the development of weld overlay materials, particularly wear resistant overlays.
    • Highly developed written & oral communication skills
    • Ability to deliver technical presentations to audiences of varying levels of knowledge
    • Project management skills

    • Research PhD in a relevant technical field
    • Experience in laser cladding in a manufacturing/production environment
    • Experience in the development of materials and processes for wear resistant and/or corrosion resistant applications.

    Core Competencies

    To lead the operation of a laser cladding cell and guide R&D activities to develop new and improved laser claddings.
