    Business Need / Purpose of Role

    The IT department at Weir Minerals Europe (located in Todmorden, West Yorkshire) is responsible for the delivery of IT Infrastructure and the planning, coordination, and control of information resources throughout Europe. This includes offices in Holland, Germany, Italy, Poland, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Finland, Sweden, Kazakhstan, Morocco, Turkey, Spain, Hungary, Romania and France. There are currently circa 440 users in the UK and a further 200 users in Europe.


    As a member of the Infrastructure team you will be responsible for the services and resources provided by IT and the connectivity to them by clients and customers ensuring maximum availability and minimum impact to the business. You will own projects to improve features and reliability according to the needs of the business.


    You will provide 3rd line support activities for ongoing problems assisting the 2nd line team in resolving incidents and assisting with requests from the business. Your focus will be to provide processes and procedures that enable the 2nd line team to effectively and quickly react to common business requirements while adhering to IT policies.

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    • Assist with the day to day operations of the Infrastructure team including measuring downtime, reporting service levels, defining and tracking operational metrics and providing status to management
    • Actively monitor system performance to proactively identify issues before they impact business functions
    • Develop disaster recovery and system availability across the business
    • Manage projects allocated taking responsibility for planning, implementation, reporting and handover activities
    • Responsible for security across all systems
    • Ensure service delivery to our customers meets or exceeds expectations by enhancing systems, processes or procedures
    • Ensure the business is compliant with all aspects of Group and Division IT Policy
    • Manage server infrastructure and support the development of processes and policies to improve system availability and project implementation
    • Manage network infrastructure and support the development of processes and policies to improve system availability and project implementation
    • Support 2nd line team with service and incident request resolution
    • Manage Server infrastructure and improve resilience
    • Cross train 3rd line team to ensure full coverage to support all systems


    • Plan and migrate systems and services to private and public cloud
    • Build system availability and redundancy into core business systems

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    Additional Information:

    Will be expected to travel to Europe from time to time and provide support in a factory environment. As we are a 24x7 operation, the successful candidate may be required to be on call outside normal business hours and to work out of hours if the need arises.
